President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural theme, "Restoring America's Promise," highlights the new administration's mission to restore opportunity and possibility for all Americans - much like his predecessor, also from the state of Illinois, President Abraham Lincoln.

In March 1865, Abraham Lincoln's Inaugural Ball was held at one of Washington's "noblest" buildings, now the home of today's Smithsonian American Art Museum. Join us as we return to Victorian times and relive history, all the while looking toward America's bright and promising future.
